We're all about doing our share to help the environment and becoming green...as long as there are no vegan shoes involved. We've had a lot of requests for a green newsletter, so this week we decided to make green our own...in a party kind of way.

After you've stopped all your junk mail, changed to CFL light bulbs, and started bringing your own boat and tote bags to the grocery store, it's time to throw a green party. And we're not takling Ralph Nader or Shamrock Shakes.
                                                   ----Alyssa and Hilary
Start with the invite. It may go against everything you ever learned from Miss Manners, but to eliminate a paper trail evites are okay. Iomoi is a chic alternative to the martini clinking glasses and cha cha dancing chihuahua evites of yesteryear.

Clean out the coat closet, then start working on the rest of your home. We started buying Method products because they looked cool and smelled good. We've come to find out they are actually earth friendly as well as pretty. If self-cleaning is not your thing, call in the professionals. Zen Home Cleaning is a non-toxic, eco-friendly cleaning service that leaves an organic chocolate on your pillow to boot. Make sure Grandma's table cloth is ready to party. Green Apple, the cleaner dry cleaner, has free pick up and delivery. They also offer at-home environmental drape and carpet cleaning.

Time to figure out what you're serving. Put local, seasonal food front and center and become a locavore. The less distance food travels the better. If self-cooking isn't your thing either, call Lucid Food, an NYC caterer that is passionate about cooking and committed to briging sustainability to fine catering.

Pick up some fresh flowers from a local farmer at the Green Market or call Gardenia Organic. Hannah Ling sells flowers that have been grown using only environmentally and socially conscious practices. And they won't cost you a penny more.

On to the important stuff....cocktails! No more alcohol, we've moved on to "ecohol." For some reason there seems to be a lot of earth friendly vodka on the market. This, of course, makes going green that much easier. Square One vodka is made from organic rye, Rain vodka is made from organic white corn and Reyka vodka uses only glacial water and is distilled using sustainable and clean energy from geothermal heat. You won't want to taint your organic vodka with a Holland House mixer so move on to Mod Mixes, organic cocktail mixers. Our faves are the French martini and the lavender lemon drop--yum!

Next to drinks, dessert is most important. Birdbath Bakery is the green offshoot of City Bakery. Everything, including the walls and floors at Birdbath, are either organic, recycled, or sustainable. And the chocolate cookies are mighty tasty too. If you show up on a bike or skateboard (god forbid), they offer a 25% discount. Now that's truly walking the walk!

The age old dilema: what to wear? Loomstate jeans kill two birds with one stone. They not only look and fit great but they are made from 100% organic material and use responsible manufacturing processes. Buy a pair for your husband so you can call him "Mr. Green Jeans."

Light some soy candles, gather 'round, and sing "Kumbaya."

After your guests have polished off all the organic vodka, it's probably not safe to send them home by mass transit. Hire some Ozo cars and have them waiting. They'll really appreciate it since you turned off your elevator and made them use the stairs!

                                          Cheers! Alyssa and Hilary

Momcierge Tip o' the Week: Our Green theme this week extends to a jewel of a new store in Nolita. Jaalber's collection of Byzantine -inspired pieces are all hand-crafted in Turkey. Since we believe in recycling, Jaalbˇr Artisan Jewelry offers a free consultation to restyle old jewelry pieces and turn them into family gifts or works of art.  Whether it's an inherited heirloom, a single earring that lost its match years ago, or simply a piece of jewelry that needs updating, Jaalber turns unused jewelry into new personalized treasures. And in case there is anyone "important" out there reading this who has not purchased a little V-Day trinket......Hilary loves the chunky blue lapiz ring and Alyssa has her eye on the turquoise double-strand necklace!
